Amsterdam is a bit magical. Everywhere you go there's water and lights, the city is quiet and the people are polite. For a highly populated city, there's very little pollution because the main transport is the bike... Again, very quiet. We had so much fun (has usually) and really loved getting to know the city, even with the low temperatures.
Amesterdão é um pouco mágica. Por todo o lado estamos rodeados de canais e de luzes, a cidade é tranquila e as pessoas educadas. Para uma cidade altamente povoada, os níveis de poluição e ruído são bastante reduzidos, em grande parte porque o principal meio de transporte é a bicicleta... Também este silencioso, contribuindo, pois, para a calmaria geral que se faz sentir. Divertimos-nos imenso (como nos é apanágio) e adorámos conhecer a cidade, mesmo com as temperaturas baixas que se faziam sentir.
To visit:
- The city it self. Go around, see the canals, go on a boat trip if you can, check the architecture and pay attention to the inscriptions on several houses... You'll be amazed by how old some of them are and yet, how well preserved.
- The Heineken Experience - It's so worth your money, it's super fun and there's a boat ride included, so you get to save there if you where planning on doing one. Also it's great if you plan ahead, because this boat will take from one side of the city to the opposite.
- The Van Gogh Museum - Again, it's worth the money, you get to know a lot about the painter and they really have all the famous Van Gogh painting and then some.
- The Anne Frank House - Words can't describe what I felt in there... I'll just say that is a lesson of strength, courage, perseverance, humility... Also, it's a reminder of the worst the human being can be and I truly believe that we must never forget what happened, so the past won't repeat it self, ever again.
- We also went to the Jewish Museum, the Portuguese Jewish Synagogue and the memorial to the victims of the holocaust... For me it was very worth it, but I guess that depends on your sensibilities and believes.
- Local Pubs - They have so many types of beer that I never even heard before. I tried I don't know how many and I don't even like beer... That should tell you how good they are! I personally recommend the Arendsnest and also, I recommend that you try a DE LECKERE (organic beer) and let me know what you think.
One place that I saw on most tour guides and which I do not recommend is the Flower Market. At least if you go in the Winter, like we did, it's very disappointing.
A visitar:
- A cidade. Vejam os canais, se puderem façam um passeio de barco, apreciem a arquitectura e reparem nas inscrições que muitas das casa têm... Vão ficar espantados com o quão antigas são a maioria delas e quão bem preservadas estão.
- A Heineken Experience - Vale bem o dinheiro, é super divertido e tem, incluída, uma viagem de barco, pelo que, se tinham pensado fazer alguma, podem poupar esse valor. E se planearem o dia a contar com isso, melhor ainda, pois esta viagem leva-vos de uma lado da cidade para outro oposto.
- O Museu Van Gogh - Para quem gosta de museus e aprecia arte, é uma oportunidade de ficar a saber muito sobre o pintor, além de que eles realmente têm todos os quadros mais famosos e tantos outros que sem serem conhecidos nos cortam a respiração.
- A Casa de Anne Frank - Não há palavras que possam expressar o que senti quando percorria cada divisão e cada esconderijo... Direi apenas que é uma lição de força, coragem, perseverança, humildade... É também um lembrete do pior que o ser humano pode ser e eu acredito piamente que nunca podemos esquecer o que aconteceu, sob pena de se poder vir a repetir.
- Nós também visitámos o Museu Judeu, a Sinagoga Portuguesa e o memorial às vitimas do holocausto... Para mim valeu a pena mas creio que isso dependerá muito das sensibilidades e crenças de cada pessoa.
- Pubs locais - Têm tantas qualidades de cerveja de que eu nem nunca tinha ouvido falar! Eu experimentei não sei quantas e eu nem gosto de cerveja... Isso deve esclarecer-vos quanto à qualidade! Pessoalmente recomendo que visitem o Arendsnest e, recomendo também, que provem uma DE LECKERE (cerveja orgânica) e digam-me o que acham.
Um sitio que é referido em quase todos os guias e que eu, pessoalmente, não recomendo é o "Flower Market". Pelo menos se, tal como eu, o visitarem no Inverno, é bastante decepcionante.
